What is the CdACharette?

The CdACharette is a collaborative workshop that brings together parents, principals, librarians, school board members, paraprofessionals, literacy coaches, and teachers from charter schools and public school districts of the Idaho panhandle. This charrette is a conversation, brainstorming session, and design exercise.

The charrette is intended to be a starting point for drafting a sketch of what is necessary in order to have strong partnerships and library and information technology programs. Elements of the CdA sketch will be presented along with Pocatello and Boise sketches in October of 2010 at a pre-conference of the Idaho Library Association's Annual Conference. Based on the work of the three regional sketches, an 'Idaho Model' will be produced that will serve as a check-list for essential practices.

This wikispace will reflect the collaborative work that imagines, defines and develops the "CdA Sketch" for shaping 21st Century learners.

  • The guiding problem that we aim to address is what needs to be in place to shape, prepare, and engage 21st Century Learners?

  • A guiding principle is that students need equitable access to quality resources. Through strategic partnering, parents, teachers, administrators and the Legislature can ensure the ID system of education provides students with what they need to flourish in the world in which they will reside.

The Axioms
1. 21st Century learning transcends the schoolhouse and school day.
2. Education must facilitate students becoming effective users and producers of ideas and information.
3. Mastering emerging technologies, tools and mediums is neither a luxury nor optional in an equitable system of education.
4. The room previously known as the "Library" should be replaced by a space that reflects the changed information landscape and evolving needs of students and teachers.
5. Involving, enlisting, and leveraging parents is essential to supporting strong teaching and learning.
